Herbal tea is an easy and delicious way to hydrate and nourish the skin as it contains vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidants which help to slow ageing, reduce UV damage, decrease inflammation and encourage the production of healthy skin cells. Here are five herbal teas you can use to get radiant skin; Chamomile Tea Chamomile is a calming herb that is packed with antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. Debunking 5 crazy herbal tea myths

Debunking 5 crazy herbal tea myths

Many of us these days depend on caffeinated beverages, with our busy schedules and full workloads. We tend to know a lot about coffee, and not a lot about caffeine-free beverages such as herbal tea. Before we even begin to debunk our myths, there is always one huge misconception between herbal tea and tea! Herbal tea is not technically a true tea, as it does not derive from the Camellia sinensis plant (i.e. the plant that is used to create black, oolong, green, and white teas). Instead, herbal tea is an infusion or blend of various leaves, fruits, bark, roots, or flowers belonging to almost any edible, non-tea plant. In Europe and other areas of the world, herbal teas are commonly known as tisanes. And, what we think we know about herbal tea often isn’t even true! Drinking tea green tea burns fat   Although green tea technically isn’t a herbal tea, this is a very common misconception! There have been many articles written about the magical properties of green tea that will help you lose weight fast, but unfortunately, this isn’t quite true. These articles suggest that green tea contains a stimulant that will supposedly boost your metabolism. Although green tea can boost your metabolism, it isn’t enough to burn fat on its own. If you’re looking to lose weight, start by lightly exercising for 30 minutes a day and try swapping out sugary beverages for a cup of herbal infusions! Further, herbal infusions that marry herbs that are proven to boost metabolism and aid loss are a much better option, such as our Slim Tea.    Tea never expires A question we always get; tea doesn’t go bad or expire, right? While tea does last for a generous amount of time, it’s not as long as you might think. Loose-leaf tea will expire approximately 6 to 12 months in the pantry and 1 to 2 years in the freezer. Herbal infusions tend to last about 1 to 2 years as well.   Pregnant women can drink tea as a substitute for coffee Pregnant women should not drink coffee due to its high caffeine content, and that is a scientifically backed fact! However, a very common myth we see is that pregnant women think they may replace coffee with green tea; unaware that green tea also contains a fair amount of caffeine. We recommend selecting a herbal infusion that is caffeine-free, however, if you are pregnant always talk to your physician about all herbal products before you consume them. Hot tea is healthier than iced tea   False. Iced tea is actually much more popular than hot tea in the United States! Homemade iced tea can be as healthful as hot tea, as long as you brew it yourself. But you do have to drink more iced tea to get the same benefit as hot tea, as adding ice dilutes the tea and reduces the volume of flavonoids and nutrients per tea bag.    All herbal teas taste the same “It’s herbal tea, they all taste the same!” - if only we had a dollar every time we heard this. The name “herbal tea” insinuates that it’s going to taste like, well, herbs. But there are so many different herbs with various flavours and distinctions! When these are paired with other natural fruits and flavours as we do at Tipson, each blend offers something completely unique! So we’ve debunked some of the most common myths about herbal teas and hopefully given you a better understanding of how to get the best out of your infusions. But if there are any more questions, don't be afraid to drop us a message on any of our social channels! We have been making fine herbal infusions for over 10 years so can offer expert advice on everything from which herbs work well together to what type of water is best. Ingredient Highlight: Cinnamon

Ingredient Highlight: Cinnamon

Cinnamon is a spice that brings a well-balanced flavour of sweetness and spiciness. Made through an intricate process of shaving the bark of the cinnamon tree and rolling by hand, cinnamon is a priced ingredient in many cuisines around the world.  Cinnamon tree bark   Ceylon Cinnamon vs Cassia Cinnamon   Ceylon, also known as, true cinnamon and Cassia cinnamon are the most commonly used varieties of cinnamon in the world. However, there are many factors that distinguish these two types.    “Ceylon Cinnamon” or true cinnamon  is native to Sri Lanka (formerly known as “Ceylon”) This cinnamon boasts a tan brown colour and is known for its tightly packed soft layers. This gives it a high quality texture.  Due to its premium quality, Ceylon cinnamon tends to be more expensive than other types of cinnamon. Furthermore, another indication of its high quality is the abundance of health benefits Ceylon cinnamon offers. That is why we use Ceylon cinnamon in our herbal infusions as well.    Production of Ceylon Cinnamon   “Cassia Cinnamon” on the other hand is known to have originated from China. Hence, it is also known as Chinese cinnamon. However, now the cultivation of Cassia cinnamon is widely grown in Southern and Eastern Asia as well. When it comes to texture and colour, cassia cinnamon tends to be rougher and darker than Ceylon cinnamon. In general, cassia cinnamon tends to be lower in quality and therefore, it is cheap and commonly used around the world.    The Health Benefits of Cinnamon   Cinnamon helps to control blood sugar levels  When it comes to health benefits, cinnamon is most commonly known for its ability to control blood sugar levels. Cinnamon has the ability to imitate the actions of insulin, increase insulin sensitivity and transport glucose to cells more efficiently. This action helps to regulate blood sugar levels. Research indicates that these effects of cinnamon are visible almost immediately after consumption and can last upto 12 hours.    Cinnamon is an anti-inflammatory agent Although a certain level of inflammation is necessary for the muscle repairment processes in our body, too much of it can be detrimental. Cinnamon helps to regulate your inflammation levels  through the anti-inflammatory properties of polyphenols. Studies have shown that these anti-inflammatory properties have a significant influence on the central nervous system and parts of the brain.   Cinnamon contains the strength of three powerful A’s This refers to cinnamon’s impressive antiviral, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial properties.! This is one of the main reasons why cinnamon has been hailed in ayurvedic medicine for centuries. These properties are not only beneficial to the human body, they also help in food preservation.      Cinnamon is packed with antioxidants Antioxidants are commonly known for their ability to subdue the damage caused by free radicals. This marvelous spice is packed with antioxidants called polyphenols. They stop any potential risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, cancer, and diabetes by constantly looking out for any damage caused by free radicals.    Cinnamon alleviates stomach discomforts Traditional Ayurvedic medicine also uses cinnamon as a cure for stomach aches and gastrointestinal problems. The antiemetic and carminative properties of the spice subdue the nauseous feeling by stimulating stomach cells that help tackle any discomforts. Furthermore, cinnamon oil is used to facilitate comfortable stomach movements to get your system back on track once again.    Cinnamon is very easy for you to incorporate into your daily diet. You can try herbal infusions, sprinkle some on your baked goods and dishes, or your morning cereal and granola. Experience the earthiness of Ceylonese spices that gives off a special kick of flavour, its share of impressive health benefits is another reason you should try it if you haven’t already!

We will be exploring all of the natural ingredients that will help with weight loss and how you can incorporate them into your daily routine.  Garlic Did you ever think that the humble garlic clove may be the answer to your weight-loss woes? Garlic is coming into the limelight for being an even more delicious nutritional powerhouse than we previously thought it to be.  Among its plethora of benefits are improved energy levels because they burn calories faster; increased metabolism as well as suppressed appetite by helping you to feel fuller for longer. This helps with getting closer to achieving your desired weight goal much sooner than before! In addition, garlic is also rich in nutrients such as vitamin C and B6, manganese, fibre and calcium which can significantly contribute to managing weight. Plus, if you’ve done your research, you know the importance of a good detox for weight management. Garlic can help you with this too! It acts as a great detoxifying agent by flushing out all the toxins in your digestive system!  Green Tea Green tea is rich in caffeine. So regularly having a cup of green tea can help you boost your metabolism. This can help to give you an energy boost and help you stay more active which will be very important for you to succeed in your weight loss journey. Another one of the many benefits it offers us is antioxidants like EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate). These substances work as catalysts in weight management by reducing our calorie intake and burning more calories than usual so we're able to lose weight easier. Cinnamon  If you are feeling guilty every time you give in to your sweet tooth and devour sweets, we’ve got just the thing to rid you of your guilt. Cinnamon can help with this through its ability to lower your blood sugar levels, and cinnamon tea has been used for weight management for decades due to this reason. Apart from helping to reduce the negative effects of sugary food, cinnamon is also shown to reduce the bad effects of food with high-fat content. On top of that, the anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties of cinnamon can also help you in your overall weight management by helping you to process your food better. Curry Leaves This aromatic leaf is an essential ingredient in many South Asian recipes. But, one of the lesser-known benefits of curry leaves is their ability to help weight loss. It can contribute to weight loss in many ways.  However, it does not limit its use to just being a flavour enhancer. The leaf contains properties that improve your gut health and metabolism. Gut bacteria affect how certain food types are digested and stored in your body, and the higher your metabolism rate is, the higher your energy levels are. Additionally, the leaf helps reduce bad (LDL) cholesterol levels and by doing so it cuts down fat stored in the body, which leads to weight loss. If you're looking for a natural weight loss solution, it's time to try some of these ingredients. There are plenty more benefits besides shedding pounds as well!  Most importantly, don't give up on your goals- we'll be here to help with anything that comes our way. We want this journey together and will do whatever it takes to make sure you succeed in achieving your desired outcome.

Ingredient Highlight: Moringa

Ingredient Highlight: Moringa

This week we’re talking about all things moringa in order to spread more awareness about its impressive potential. It has been one of Tipson Tea's favorite herbs for years now and it was the perfect addition to our range of organic herbal infusions.  Did you know that it is actually considered a “superfood?” This powerful green leafy vegetable grows naturally from Asia down through Africa where they use many different parts of these plants including leaves, roots or flowers, and even seeds which are used for flavorings or beverages such as tea. We know that this amazing plant can do wonders, so let us share some interesting information with you. Moringa is a tree that has many different names and nicknames, such as the drumstick tree or benzolive. What makes it so special? Moringa can be described as an all-around superfood because not only does this miracle plant have anti-inflammatory properties but also neuroprotective benefits for your brain health!  Due to its rich nutrient content, Moringa has been in use for over 3,000 years as a traditional remedy. Moringa was first mentioned by Indian scholars around the 2nd century AD when they called it "the never-fading tree." Since ancient times people have relied on moringa for its ability not only to offer nutritional benefits but also because of its multiple uses: you can eat the leaves raw; make tea out of them; and apply crushed leaves topically. It is also known to strengthen the immune system and fight off many common illnesses like cancer and diabetes. Moringa's versatility allows it to be used both internally or externally, making this an extremely versatile plant that can ease your life on every level from health to beauty care needs - all with natural ingredients!   Health Benefits of Moringa Antioxidants for free radical damage We’re all aware of the damage free radicals cause to our bodies. Neglecting the oxidative stress caused by these free radicals can lead to chronic diseases like heart disease, type II diabetes, dementia and arthritis. The Vitamin C and Beta-Carotene content in Moringa help fight against any potential damages caused by these pesky little things called “free radicals." Stronger bones for a stronger you When it comes to our bones, they're what makes us strong. Strong muscles without good supporting bone structure just don't cut the mustard! That's why Moringa is such a great source of Calcium and Phosphorus; both are essential for healthy bones. So drink up or take some supplements if you like, but make sure your body has enough calcium so that when life throws its inevitable curveballs like menopause at you, your powerful skeleton can handle anything! Detoxification for a cleaner system Moringa is a plant that has many health benefits. One of the reasons it's called "the natural detox" is because studies have shown how effective its leaves are at removing toxins from your body! Living in an environment filled with pollution often means we're consuming unhealthy food and breathing polluted air- both invitations for harmful things to enter our bodies. Moringa can help cleanse us internally by getting rid of those unwanted substances like lead or mercury which accumulate over time, leading to illnesses such as cancer if left untreated.  No more bad hair days Moringa leaves will leave your hair looking and feeling amazing! The high antioxidant content from the Moringa leaves strengthens follicles which in turn reduces breakage. They also reduce dandruff- another rising problem. You can promise yourself bouncy, silky soft locks with this natural treatment. The health benefits that come from this plant are astounding. As we discussed before, there really isn't anything that moringa can't do for us in terms of our overall wellness and vitality; it's one-stop shopping at its finest when you're looking for an all-natural supplement without any side effects or nasty additives.

Matcha to energise your day!

Matcha to energise your day!

It is no surprise that almost every person in the world starts their day with a cup (or three in our case) of tea or coffee. The odds are that you already had a cup or you are drinking one right now as you’re reading this blog. One of the reasons why this morning cup of tea or coffee is an essential part of all our mornings is mainly because the caffeine from tea and coffee helps us to get energised and kick start our day.  In recent years, matcha has become a popular beverage and often substitutes coffee as a source of caffeine. So, we thought it's worth a look into how matcha compares to coffee and how good of a job it does in giving us energy.      Matcha is much more than your regular cup of green tea! It preserves all the core nutrients of tea till you steep and consume it. This is because the production of matcha involves the entire tea leaf which is ground into a fine powder. Rather than what happens with other types of green tea where the tea leaves are infused in hot water that extracts most of its nutrients. The preparation of matcha has its own unique process that differentiates it from the other types of green tea. A small proportion of the powder is placed in a small bowl and then hot water is poured in. In order to achieve that bright hue foam, the mixture is whipped vigorously for around two or three minutes using a bamboo whisk.     The possibilities with Matcha are endless! There are just so many ways you can incorporate it into your daily routine and get the most out of it. For instance, you can make lattes, teas, cakes, biscuits, pasta, basically any type of dish or dessert you like.   Fun fact: Matcha is an alkaline that digests much faster and less likely to upset your stomach.   How can matcha boost your energy?      Tea contains caffeine and since matcha is derived from the tea plant, it naturally contains a certain amount of caffeine as well. This caffeine content is responsible for the energy-boosting properties of matcha. However, there’s a difference between matcha and coffee and it’s that although it contains caffeine, a cup of matcha doesn't give you the bothersome caffeine jitters like coffee does. This is because the caffeine content in matcha is gradually released into your body, unlike coffee where the caffeine hits you at once. Along with this sustained energy boost, matcha also brings an abundance of other health benefits as well. Moreover, it contains many body-boosting antioxidants like Catechins that protects the cells from damage caused by oxidative stress.   Did you know? Coffee contains more caffeine than matcha, but the slow release of caffeine in matcha ensures that you get a more sustained energy boost from matcha compared to coffee.   Why choose matcha over coffee?     As more and more health benefits of matcha come to light, many of us are opting for Matcha as an alternative to coffee. The idea of coffee and energy drinks being the only beverages that will boost your energy couldn’t be further away from the truth. So, if you’ve been looking for a sign to make you switch from coffee to matcha, here it is!  Matcha has a lower caffeine content compared to coffee but it leaves you feeling energised for longer (for around 5 - 6 hours) by slowly releasing caffeine into your body. It is also said that matcha is actually great for oral care and does not leave your breath smelling off like coffee does. Furthermore, matcha does wonders for your skin by helping to clear up acne and enhance your skin’s natural glow through its antioxidant properties. What are your thoughts? Do you think matcha is actually more effective than coffee or other energy drinks when it comes to boosting your energy?  There are tons of easy recipes to get you started on your journey to being a matcha fanatic. If you are new to matcha, we assure you it won’t disappoint you. For a starter, you can try our range of organic matcha herbal infusions that are perfect as on-the-go drinks. The flavourful combinations adding a twist to your cuppa is another bonus!

3 ways to make a Latte Tea

3 ways to make a Latte Tea

Latte teas are currently brewing up a world of interest amongst tea lovers. The addition of frothy milk in a latte tea helps to make your regular cup of tea creamier and enhance its flavour profile. It is the perfect dairy refreshment to beat this Summer heat when consumed cold. But it can also be the warm cuppa that can accompany you through breezy evenings. But what exactly is a Latte Tea? Similar to a cafe latte, latte teas are also made with frothed milk but use a richly brewed black tea as its base. This allows you to taste a good balance between the flavour of milk and tea.  Latte twas are delectable whether you take it hot or cold. It really depends on your mood or the weather outside. For a hot option generally steamed milk is used, whereas for a colder drink frothy milk is added to the brewed tea. In this week’s blog we’re bringing you three ways to easily add  a twist our regular cup of latte tea.  Iced Chai Latte Let's start off with a cool, refreshing latte for the Summer. This is perfect for chai lovers that like a bit of spice in their cup of tea. This recipe requires very little time and effort, and will be ready before you know it!    Ingredients: 02 cups of milk Ice cubes   For the chai concentrate you will need: 02 Tipson Latte Tea Baked Apple Cinnamon tea bags 02 ½ cups of water 03 tablespoons of Honey 01 Cinnamon stick 01 Star Anise 10 Cardamom pods 10 Cloves 02 teaspoons of ground Nutmeg 01 teaspoon of Vanilla ¼ teaspoon of ground Ginger ¼ teaspoon Black Peppercorns Directions: Crush the star anise, cloves, and cardamom pods to make the infusion process more effective. Bring water and spices to a boil over high heat on a medium sized pan. After it reaches a boiling stage, let it simmer for 05 minutes. Take it off the heat and add in your tea bags  Let it all simmer for another 05 minutes. Strain off the spices from the tea concentrate. Stir in honey and vanilla. Pour it into a heat proof container and let it cool. After cooling, place in the refrigerator to use in your iced latte. To make your iced chai latte: Fill a tall glass with ice. Pour in 01 part chai concentrate. Finish it off with 01 part milk Serve cold and enjoy!   Tips:    Have a big enough batch of chai concentrate ready in your refrigerator so that you can enjoy it anytime you'd like. Depending on your taste you can switch up the proportions of milk and chai concentrate. If needed you can reduce the spice quantities proportionally to other spices. Matcha Tea Latte Any Matcha lovers? Here’s the tea latte of your dreams! With just three ingredients you’ll be able to make yourself this Matcha goodness in just minutes.    Ingredients: 01 Tipson Matcha Mint tea bag 01 ¼ cups of Milk ⅓ cup of water 01 teaspoon of Honey Directions: Start by simmering the water, this is the ideal temperature to make Matcha. Let the tea bag steep for about 2-4 minutes. Pour milk and honey to a French press and pump it up and down. After a few minutes of operating the French Press, you’ll be left with rich frothy milk. To a tall glass add frothy milk and top off with the steeped Matcha. If needed you can add a quick dust of Matcha and you are done. Enjoy!   Tips: It’s very important that you make sure the water is at a simmering stage and not boiling. If you don’t have a French press with you, you can also use a whisk, however it does require a little bit more effort. Iced Brown Sugar Tea Latte   Our third and final recipe is another cold option, and tastes just as good as it looks! Sugar syrup in your latte tea will add the perfect balance to the creaminess of the milk and the richness of black tea.   Ingredients:  01 Tipson Irish Cream tea bag ⅓ cup of Milk ½ cup of water 01 cup of ice cubes   For the brown sugar syrup you will need: 01 tablespoon of Brown Sugar 02 tablespoons of water   Directions: Start by boiling the water over medium-high heat. Next in a heat-proof glass add in the tea bag and hot water. Let it steep for 05 minutes, discard the tea bag and let it cool dow To make your sugar syrup simply combine the two ingredients and stir until the sugar dissolves. To make your latte: In a tall glass pour in the sugar syrup. To this add in the ice cubes. Now pour in milk straight to the ice cubes. The final step is to pour the cooled tea. Stir and enjoy!   Tips: The layers need to be in order to create the perfect cup of latte. The lowest layer is much sweeter than the top layer and stirring is essential to achieve a tasteful balance.   With just a few simple steps of steeping the tea bag to adding milk and sweeteners, you too can make yourself a latte tea that is just as good as any cafe-like latte with the Tipson Latte Range!  Head over to the Tipson store now to get your hands on the flavour you love the most.
